Our mission
Black House is a premier martial arts and fitness academy in Torrance serving students throughout the South Bay and greater Los Angeles area. We provide professional instruction for men, women, adults, teens, and children of all experience levels—from complete beginners taking their first class to experienced martial artists, competitive fighters, and public safety professionals seeking advanced training.
Our mission is to help students become stronger, healthier, more confident, and more capable through practical martial arts training. Whether your goal is self-defense, fitness, personal growth, competition, or learning a new skill, our programs are designed to meet you where you are and help you reach the next level. We emphasize realistic, pressure-tested training that develops effective self-protection skills, physical conditioning, mental toughness, and the confidence to handle challenges both on and off the mat.
At Black House, we are committed to our four core values: Respect, Honor, Discipline, and Strength. These principles guide everything we do, creating a positive and supportive training environment where students can grow safely while pursuing their individual goals.
Our programs include Muay Thai Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Adult MMA, Advanced Combative MMA, beginning Self Defense, Kids Combative MMA, and Youth Combative MMA. Whether you're looking to get in shape, learn practical self-defense, train for competition, or become a more complete martial artist, Black House in Torrance offers a path for every student.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about Black House's business and programs.
How should I prepare for my first class?
Wear comfortable workout clothes. Most students train barefoot, but you can wear socks if you prefer. Bring a water bottle and hydrate before class. Eat before training, but allow an hour to digest before class. Inform the instructor of any injuries or specific needs before class. Have fun!
What if I'm not in great shape?
“If you come to class, you have succeeded.” There is no weeding-out process. Very few students enter the school in the shape they want to be in. Everyone participates at their own level. Your strength, endurance, and self-defense skills will naturally improve as you continue training. If you need to step out during class, that’s fine. We encourage you to continue, but there is no pressure to perform.
I have some martial arts experience.
Black House welcomes experienced martial artists and respects all arts and instructors. We encourage you to try a few classes with us and let the manager and instructors know about your prior training.
I'm over 50. How will I keep up with younger students?
Congratulations on taking the first step! Martial arts training is for everyone. Many of our students are over 50, and you’ll find that all students show respect and kindness in class. To prepare, stretch before and after class, and be sure to hydrate!
Do men and women train together?
Yes. Men and women train side by side in a focused, respectful environment. Many women especially enjoy our Self Defense classes, but we have many training in our Muay Thai and MMA programs as well!
Which program is right for me?
It depends on your goals — MMA, Muay Thai, Self Defense, and fitness each offer something different. We encourage cross-training, and we are happy to help you choose during your free trial classes.
What ages do you teach?
We offer programs for kids (5-8), youth (9-12), teens, and adults, with level-based tracks from basic through advanced and masters.
What should I wear to my first class?
Comfortable athletic clothing you can move in, and bring water. We will guide you on any specific gear once you get started.
Can I try a class before signing up?
Yes. We offer two free trial classes for adults, teens, youth, and kids so you can experience our training before committing.
Do I need any experience to start?
Not at all. Many of our students begin as complete beginners. Every program has basic-level classes designed to welcome newcomers, and our instructors will help you learn at your own pace.
